Display Platform; 2020 Final Show

RCA Interior Design x Robert Storey

As part of the Interior Design programme from the School of Architecture at the RCA, Robert Storey led the Display Platform during 2019 and 2020. This platform uses ‘display’ as a means to construct a spatial narrative. Within that space, they looked to challenge the expected, subverting traditional ideas of display and exploring the concept of experience. The platform asked what tools can be used to tell a story and how can they immerse viewers into a world which is both beautiful and informative?

Experience; an event or occurrence which leaves an impression on someone or the process of gaining knowledge or skills from doing, seeing or feeling things. The intention of this platform, therefore, explored how we can make artistic design decisions through clever use of colour, light, texture, smell, sound or journey to elevate the story of a space and enhance the human experience.

For the 2020 show, each student chose to explore a spatial typology and client which resonated with their personal design interests. They include fashion retail, exhibition design, hospitality and production design. Each project examined and scrutinised the subject matter to develop a spatial language and design narrative driven by its investigative research as to what would be a prospective outcome.
