A purity of line and proportion, along with a timeless elegance forms the foundation of Gabrielle Chanel’s ‘Fashion Manifesto’ and underpins the spatial storytelling of the exhibition. Spaces transport visitors to places she frequented, from La Pausa to the iconic staircase of rue Cambon, whilst others encapsulate the enduring codes of her design. Her love of both opulence and restraint are embodied in a refined tonal palette of beige, gold, white and black with luxurious shifts in surface texture speaking to her innovations in materiality; from the sheen of black lacquer to softness of beige canvas. Animated lighting and AV content dances across surfaces, speeding and slowing time, whilst sound envelops the experience, inviting visitors to marvel in the magic of Chanel.
